CarrotSticks
This website is a fun way to get students excited about addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division by trying to accumulate as many carrots as possible. Students are able to work on it independently (by simply creating their own username and password), but to get the students more involved set-up your own classroom.
When you go to the website (CarrotSticks) In the upper right hand corner there is a link to classroom setup. There is a nice set-up wizard that walks you through the steps, which involves basic information. This will then provide you with a link for you class to use. Once you have this it is time for the students to get started. They will need a username and password. After they are set-up the fun begins. Students have the option of working by themselves or by challenging others in the classroom or other students across the web logged into CarrotSticks. The students level of problems will increase with the more carrotsticks they attain.
I even go in and challenge my students with answering a variety of different problems. The added benefit is that I now have students outside of school working on their math problems and trying to reach the top spot.
