Using Character Scrapbook to Help Analyze Characters in any Appointment

Character Scrapbook

Character Scrapbook is a Scholastic interactive application. This can be used with any storybook. You might often have students in your class describe different traits of the main characters in the story or you may ask students to illustrate these same characters. This allows you do to both.
Students simply start off by entering in the title of the book and the name of the character they will be working with and then click go. Students can use the illustration tools provided or they can draw their own. Draw your own just allows the student or teacher to print out a blank canvas or paper copy of what they can see on the screen. If you choose to use the tools online there is a number of different options for the physical characteristics of the person but you are limited to the animals provided to you.
The second part of the activities is a list of accomplishments, descriptions, things you know about the character and a few more. Once the student has completed their activity they are able to print out their finished scrapbook page. You are not able to save the activity to complete at a later time, so this is a one and done activity.
A teacher might choose to create a "scrapbook" of each story that could be shared with parents or even revisited to reteach a certain skill that was taught earlier in the year. This could also be used as an "icebreaker" activity that a student could do about themselves and then share with classmates who might not know them
