Cookie.com is a website that has a number of different interactive activities for students in grades K - 2.The site has a number of different tabs across the top dealing with games, stories, videos, worksheets, and arts and crafts. These activities are in the subject areas of language arts, math, social studies, science and more. The nice thing about each of the games is that it gives you a short explanation of what is involved in each game and the grade level/ages that the activities are designed for. The majority of the other tabs are geared more towards K-1 students, but students who may need additional help in certain areas could benefit from a number of these activities.

Using Character Scrapbook to Help Analyze Characters in any Appointment

Character Scrapbook

Character Scrapbook is a Scholastic interactive application. This can be used with any storybook. You might often have students in your class describe different traits of the main characters in the story or you may ask students to illustrate these same characters. This allows you do to both.
Students simply start off by entering in the title of the book and the name of the character they will be working with and then click go. Students can use the illustration tools provided or they can draw their own. Draw your own just allows the student or teacher to print out a blank canvas or paper copy of what they can see on the screen. If you choose to use the tools online there is a number of different options for the physical characteristics of the person but you are limited to the animals provided to you.
The second part of the activities is a list of accomplishments, descriptions, things you know about the character and a few more. Once the student has completed their activity they are able to print out their finished scrapbook page. You are not able to save the activity to complete at a later time, so this is a one and done activity.
A teacher might choose to create a "scrapbook" of each story that could be shared with parents or even revisited to reteach a certain skill that was taught earlier in the year. This could also be used as an "icebreaker" activity that a student could do about themselves and then share with classmates who might not know them

Mightybooks

This is a great resource to use for language arts and with ESL students. The site has a number of animated story books and songs that would work well with primary grades. One of the animated parts of the site is titled "Pexi has a Question." This has animations that answers questions such as why is the grass green, what is wind, and why is the sky blue. This are a fun and exciting way for you to answer these questions for students. Another portion that I found interesting for students of all ages is under new and then under "Guess What interesting facts." Here you can meet the gentle giant of Galapagos. Perhaps Puffy's Pluto rap is more your style.

This website was created by Dan Meyer. Here is a link to the explanation of the site. The website has a number of different pictures and videos they will be displayed and it asked you to share the first thing that comes to mind. The questions can then be typed in and shared. There is a limit of 140 characters. I have been using this as a way to get my student's thinking especially in the morning when we are sharing during morning meeting. It is also a good way to practice brainstorming. It could also be used as a quick activity between different subjects to keep your students engaged. Below are are few examples of what you could find on this site.

Multiplication Table Channel on You Tube

This You Tube channel has songs/videos that are the multiplication tables. I have used a number of different multiplication songs to help my students learn their times tables. The reason I like these particular videos is because of the length of the video and the manner that each set is presented. The video will go through the tables in order and then mix up the tables later on in the video. It also has a "nice" beat to it that gets the students moving in their seats.  If you find that these do not work out for you there are a number of other multiplication videos available.

Cube Creator on Read,Write, Think

This site is designed to help a writer set up biographies, mysteries, stories, or a blank cube that you can customize to fit the type of writing. Students start off by filling in their name and then each cube breaks the writing down into six distinct parts. For example, on the bio cube side 1 talks about when a person was born and where they lived, side 2 is for personal background, side 3is for personality traits, side 4 is for what is significant to the person, side 5 is for obstacles a person had to overcome, and side 6 is for important quotes. The nice feature is that once your done you can print it out and actually create a cube. This would be helpful for a student setting up their writing piece.
